I stubled across this one today, a mix up of productions by French DJ The Milkman Of One Funk Productions. It’s a selection of classic 70’s & 80’s cartoon themes which will bring back a lot of memories for saturday morning TV devotees. This set comes courtesy of DJ Lazy, who took the cuts one step further and added his own production values to the mix. he runs a great MP3 site called Blogger’s Delite.
Download the mix here.

J-Marimba Ponies

Insane! Check out this music group comprising of 10 young percussionists ranging from 4 to 12 years in age. The primary objective of the group is to foster goodwill and friendship through the universal language of music. No conductors or music sheets are used by the Marimba Ponies. The music is memorized completely and flows out of their own individual rhythms and emotions.

Low – Family Tree
Here’s an animated clip fom my son’s favourite tv show Yo Gabba Gabba. The song is “Family Tree” and is performed by the usually sombre masters of dark and light, Low, the three piece from Duluth, Minnesota. I saw this band recently in Sydney and Ange dared me to call out for this tune as an encore. Suffice to say, it probably wouldn’t have fit into the set that night at all. Enjoy the clip.
Here’s a photo of Alan & Mimi of Low I snapped that night.

Rock Your Baby

Having established a strong presence in the kid’s clothing arena since 2002, Rock Your Baby, the company who introduced us to the iconic ABCD, Security and Spit Happens tops for tikes are showing no signs of slowing down. A great range of Western shirts for the boys and retro print dresses for girls as well as the usual T-Shirts and onesies for baby’s makes this brand stand out in a market saturated with “cool” clothes for kids.
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and anyone who’s been to Cotton On Kids will see the Rock Your Baby style appropriated (or flat out ripped off) some months after gaining market popularity. Don’t get me wrong, Cotton On Kids is a great place to shop for inexpensive and well made gear, but Rock Your Baby is where it’s at man!
Here’s our boy Miles wearing the Rock Your Baby Retro Badges tee.

Eric Carle

Eric Carle – I bet there aren’t too many households containing small children that don’t possess at least one of this legendary children’s author and illustrator’s wonderous books. Published in 1969, his best-known work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world and has been translated into more than 45 languages and sold over 25 million copies. As of 2005, a copy is sold roughly every 57 seconds.
The original title of the book was to have been A Week with Willi Worm, featuring a bookworm named Willi. However, Carle’s editor advised that a green worm would not make a very likable protagonist. There are rumours of the film rights having been sold for £1 million.
Eric Carle has illustrated more than seventy books, many best sellers, most of which he also wrote, and more than 75 million copies of his books have sold around the world.

AWARDS: 2007 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Toy Platinum Award; 2005 iParenting Excellent Product Award available here
Here is an interview with Eric conducted in 2007.

Just What Every Dad Needs

Yes—if you purchase the Levo Book Holder, you are incurably lazy and obviously need to donate all your money to charity, because you have more disposable income than you do sense. However… We’ve all had nights where a good book and a pair of elbows are the only things standing between you and total comfort—nights when the Levo would have come in very handy.
(Although it still looks like page-flipping would be a real pain in the ass.)

Art Project
I went out on Friday and picked up a small pre-stretched square canvas and some acrylic paints, as i’ve decided to create some artwork to put on the wall of my son’s bedroom. It’s cheaper than buying mass produced prints and it’s a more personal touch that really anyone can do. I will explain the process in detail as the project progresses, but I thought I’d start by showing the finished drawing I made last night that will now be my challenge to paint onto the canvas. I haven’t painted in the longest time, so this should be both fun and interesting. Stay tuned for progress pictures.
